Every home will at least occasionally need to remove a stain from the walls. How difficult this proves to be depends on both the method we use to remove the stain and the wall surface that we remove it from.

A few generations ago people preferred glossy paint, which had an advantage in that it did not absorb stains or moisture. Matt paint, which was fashionable for some time, tended to less stain resistant. But a modern alternative to both options is eggshell paint, which has a Matt-like finish yet proves fairly stain resistant.
Yet some stains require a few tricks to be removed from walls.
Stains on walls with oil based paint
A mixture of one teaspoon of dish detergent with 1/4 teaspoon of vinegar in a small bowl of warm water will prove to be a decent cleaner for many stains. Use a soft bristle brush.

A mixture of vinegar and baking soda in some warm water will clean these walls. Clean the wall with a sponge.
Some stubborn stains can be removed with hand sanitizer. This is good for ink or scuff marks. Leave it on the stain for half a minute and then sponge away.
A magic eraser is slightly abrasive, and can be used to remove some stains. This is good for scuff marks, crayon and some ink marks.
Use some Boraz and baking soda in warm water if the magic eraser does not work by itself.
